“The new Miss Teen International® 2006 is Jade Kenny, Miss Teen Maryland International.” I dreamed those words a thousand times but never believed they would come true!
What an opportunity God has presented me with.
After losing two of my grandparents and my best friend Marci, within a year, I began to identify with the difficulties associated with grief. It was then that I realized the need for teen grief counseling.
In the U.S. 8 million people suffered through the death of someone in their immediate family last year. Nearly 20% of those were children under the age of 18 who lost one or both parents. These staggering figures do not even include the kids who have lost a loved one, best friend or confidant.
As Miss Teen International® my mission is to change the face of grief. As I foster emotional healing among children grieving a loss from a life-altering crisis, I am able to promote and exemplify the character and integrity of the International pageant system. This title has strengthened my voice and given me superior exposure to deliver my message.
As Miss Teen International® I will continue promoting the Rainbows Organization as their international teen spokesperson. I will also network with state and national government officials promoting awareness of teen grief counseling and to endorse a “National Teen Grief Awareness Day.”
